Introduction

Welcome to our cooperative project!  Our project evaluates Second Life as an educational platform for teaching about space and space exploration. Through our research of Second Life, we determined the best methods for using Second Life as an educational tool. Enclosed is a report which includes research about the benefits of 3D learning environments, educational resources for the Second Life program, and a multimedia presentation that overviews our team’s experience working with Second Life.

Abstract

Second Life, a 3D virtual world, is an immersive learning environment where students can learn and collaborate with people from across the world via the internet. Second Life can be used as an educational tool that can teach students about different subjects within the 3D worlds that they visit. Our project concentrates on teaching students about space and space exploration, and uses educational strategies to get students excited to learn about the different planets in our solar system. On our virtual field trip students and users will travel to the depths of the universe to learn about the solar system, different space crafts, and how astronauts are transferred in-between different vehicles.  Group three’s wiki will contain our collaborative project and its elements and will discuss our experiences to include the advantages and disadvantages of using Second Life to educate our students.

I know that the abstract needs to be a little shorter and can be worded in a different way to take out some erroneous information. The abstract normally needs to be to the point.

Here is the revised version:

Second Life, a 3D virtual world, is a place where students can learn in an environment that is monitored to ensure their safety. Second Life can be used for many different things and can teach students about different subjects based on the worlds that they visit. Our project concentrates on teaching students about space and space exploration, to get them into learning about different planets. On our virtual field trip we will be teaching students and users about the solar system, different space crafts, and how astronauts are transferred in-between different vehicles. Group three’s wiki will contain our collaborative project and its elements and will discuss our experiences to include the advantages and disadvantages of using Second Life to educate our students.

Who's going to email the link to Dr. Corbeil? Would you like for me to do it?

Added screenshots to the Visual Documentation section. Also, what do you think of adding a "Grand Tour of the Planets" poster to the Home page? Would like to see something that makes the opening page pop a little more.
